I support Medicare for All in its totality. I believe that for a society or government to be good and just, it must care for its most vulnerable members. We must be able to do the right thing for millions of Americans and give them access to robust healthcare.
Infrastructure spending on bridges, roads, highways, and communities is important to me. I think it should be one of the focuses of today’s government. We cannot stand by while the towns and villages we love shrink and fall into disrepair. Safe access is paramount.
The rights of minorities in this country are being eroded and thrown into a political tumbler. We need to protect our minorities from discrimination in the workplace and schools. We need to do better, and I know that we can. We should support our friends and neighbors within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Taxes are a massive slice of the politics in this country. People say the rich don’t pay their fair share, and I agree. I support a progressive tax system where the amount of money you make determines your tax rate. Secondly, I also support financial reform that removes the ability of corporations and individuals to avoid taxes through the use of loopholes.
The people need representation in the workplace. This has been an undisputed fact for over a century. Unions make us a strong state, nation, and world. Unions make us all safer and more secure in the face of rising monopolization. They allow us to do the work that we love and do it with the deserved benefits, pay, PTO, etc. I think it is safe to say that I support the formation and empowerment of public and private sector unions for all workers of these United States.
I support the gift ban as supported by March On Harrisburg. Gift giving has been used as a way to lobby our representatives, effectively turning dollars into votes. This is not how our state (or country, for that matter) should function.
I believe in the effectiveness of rent freezes. In an era of high rent prices and low wages, it is clear that a temporary solution is necessary for a stable country. Rent should not rise above medication or feeding oneself as a priority in the United States. All three should be possible to attain, as well as a family, on a single income. That used to be a very realistic statement, and unfortunately, now it is not. I hope that you, the reader, want to make it possible again.
I support a federal light pollution bill to decrease the amount of light reflected by our nation into the sky from all its states, territories, and other landmasses. For too long have we all been deprived of the ability to gaze at the same stars. I don’t know about you, reader, but I’d like to be able to see Orion clearly when I look up at the night sky. I think that some of your more STEM-oriented friends may want that too! Ask them sometime.
